P4: Production Materials
Here you can see my contact sheets that contain all the photos I
have taken for my Sheldon Cooper magazine. The images highlighted by the
red squares are the ones I will be using for my magazine.
magazine Contents pages (slideshare.net)magazine Contents pages (slideshare.net)
The
first image (20220318_121849.jpg) I have chosen is going to be for my
contents page. On my visualisation diagram you can see I have included
an image of Sheldon looking at his laptop in the top left corner,
therefore I had my Sheldon Cooper model do the same thing with a laptop
prop. This is a medium camera shot and I chose this photo because it
isn't slanted like some of the other photos and because it is more in
focus compared to the others.
I
will use photo 20220318_132323.jpg as the double page spread image
because my model looks superior and this is a low angle, medium camera
shot of Sheldon in front of the train.
I
will also use photo 20220318_132325.jpg and cut out my Sheldon Cooper
model to place him on my front cover. I chose this image because my
model is looking at the camera and smiling which is what other magazines
usually have.
The
20220318_132444 photo I took is for the double page spread image. This
is a low angle medium camera shot and I chose this image because my
model is smiling and Sheldon loves trains so he would be smiling if he
was in the photo.
I
am going to use these close up photos of magazine pages I took and
collage them together to create a background image for my Sheldon Cooper
magazine front cover. I have decided to use the photos Cat 1.jpg,
Lizard 3.jpg, The Lizard 4.jpg, Wanda 3.jpg and Xmen 3.jpg because they
are clearer and I will find these easier to crop.
After looking at different contents pages, I have chosen to do a full camera shot of Sheldon Cooper instead.

Sheldon Cooper magazine DPS Article
What
do you think of when you hear the name Sheldon Cooper? A quirky,
eccentric man who thinks he is better than everyone. Sheldon always has
something to say and he has some very funny moments in the show!
Quirks:
Sheldon Cooper is famous for his eccentric quirks and behaviours. First of all, no one
(including you) can sit in Sheldon's spot on the couch. Sheldon
explains that "In the winter that seat is close enough to the radiator
to remain warm, yet not so close as to cause perspiration. In the summer
it's directly in the path of a cross breeze created by open windows
there and there. It faces the television at an angle that is neither
direct, thus discouraging conversation, nor so far wide as to create a
parallax distortion." So if you try and sit in Sheldon's spot, you won't
hear the end of it!
Another quirk of
Sheldon's is his repetition of knocking on a door three times. In the
show, the other characters have fun with this. In season 9 episode 11,
Sheldon goes to Penny's apartment. Penny and Bernadette decided to see
what happens if Bernadette says "come in" to Sheldon and he goes silent.
In the Hot Tub Contamination episode, Sheldon explains that he knocks
on the door three times because he accidentally saw his dad cheating
because he didn't knock on the door.
We
know Sheldon loves to create contracts and documents, yes I'm referring
to the roommate agreement. When Leonard first visits the apartment,
Sheldon tells him to sign the roommate agreement, a document that
contains lots of funny rules such as not changing the temperature of the
thermostat and what happens if one of them threatens to destroy Tokyo
(the capital of Japan) that Leonard has to follow. Not only does Leonard
have to follow a roommate agreement, so does Amy when she eventually
moves in with Sheldon.
Leonard or Amy usually
drive Sheldon to work. However, in season 2, Leonard started working
night shifts so Sheldon had to find other transportation to get to work.
The friend group learn that Sheldon can't drive. Sheldon doesn't like
buses because there are no seat belts and they won't let him tie himself
to the seat with bungie cords. Sheldon annoys Penny about the check
engine light in her car and which road to drive down so Penny kicks him
out of the car. Howard takes him home on his scooter but Sheldon screams
the entire way so he left him in the middle of the road. Raj picks him
up and takes him home in his car. The group persuade Sheldon to learn
how to drive using a driving simulator but he crashes constantly! Later
on in the series we find out that Sheldon got his drivers license
eventually but he prefers to be chauffeured around instead.
Relationships with others:
Sheldon
is a difficult person to get along with, however he has a close group
of friends and eventually a wife. Sheldon has Leonard, Penny, Raj,
Bernadette, Amy and Howard.
Dr. Sheldon
Cooper and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler present: Dr. Sheldon Cooper's Fun With
Flags is an internet show Amy and Sheldon created, they share facts
about different flags across the world. Lots of famous celebrities
starred in Fun With Flags such as Will Wheaton, LeVar Burton, Penny and
Barry Kripke. This is a funny way we see Amy and Sheldon bonding
together. Some great moments happen in Fun With Flags such as the
Valentines Day episode of the internet show where they went live to see
what fun flag questions their fans had, only to listen to Raj and Barry
Kripke ask for relationship advice.
Speaking of
celebrities, Sheldon had a grudge against Will Wheaton because he
didn't show up to sign his Wesley Crusher action figure when he was a
child. So when Sheldon finds out Will Wheaton is competing in the Mystic
Warlords of Ka'a tornament, he seeks to destroy him. The funny twist
happens when Will says his Meemaw died (which was a lie) so Sheldon
backs down and loses to Will. Another time Sheldon competed against Will
was when they played bowling against each other in their separate
teams. Will won again and The Wesley Crushers (named after Will
Wheaton's Star Trek character) were defeated. They meet again when
Sheldon goes to watch Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark with
an extra 21 seconds of the movie. Because of his celebrity status, Will
Wheaton and his friends push to the front of the que and this
infuriates Sheldon. Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard aren't let in to
watch the movie so Sheldon steals the movie and runs away with it while
Will Wheaton and other people wanting to watch the movie chase him! The
grudge ends when Will Wheaton invites the group to his birthday party
and finally signs a Wesley Crusher action figure for Sheldon.
Another
celebrity Sheldon is friends with is James Earl Jones, the voice of
Darth Vader. Sheldon didn't want to go to Comic Con by himself so he
decided he would create his own. Sheldon found James Earl Jones from a
tweet that said he was at his favourite Sushi restaurant and they became
best friends. They went for ice cream, go to a fun fair and on a ferris
wheel, sing Lion Sleeps Tonight at karaoke, they pressed the bell on
Carrie Fisher's door and ran away and they went to a sauna where James
offers to take Sheldon and his friends to Comic Con with him. Other
celebrities Sheldon has met are Stephen Hawking, William Shatner, Stan
Lee, Steve Wozniak, Bill Nye, Mark Hamill and Adam West.
Other
funny or great moments between Sheldon and the other characters are
when Sheldon marries Amy and they win the Nobel Prize for Physics by
revolutionising String Theory. Sheldon consistantly mocks Howard for not
having a PHD when he is an engineer "I have never said that you are not
good at what you do, its just that what you do is not worth doing",
when Penny takes Sheldon to Disneyland and they become best friends,
Penny and Leonard even acts like a parental figure to Sheldon sometimes.
We find out that Sheldon is afraid of Goofy and has nightmares about
him. Leonard and Sheldon decided to visit George Lucas's Skywalker
Ranch. They are stopped and told they cannot enter, however Sheldon
decides to run in anyway and gets tased.
Funny moments:
The Big Bang Theory has no shortage of funny moments, especially from Sheldon Cooper.
While
trying to solve a physics problem about atoms, Sheldon gets so
determined to solve the physics question that he wasn't sleeping. To
help get a visual model to answer his Physics problem, Sheldon goes to a
ball pit in a shopping centre late at night. Leonard is called by the
security guard to take Sheldon home but Sheldon won't leave so Leonard
tries to drag Sheldon out of the ball pit. Sheldon hides in the ball pit
and shouts "BAZINGA!" when he jumps up from the ball pit as Leonard
tries to get to Sheldon. Bazinga is a word Sheldon created for after he
says a joke to show he was joking.
Soft
Kitty is a song Sheldon's mum used to sing to him when he was little and
sick. This song has been used on lots of TBBT merchandise and it is
usually Penny that sings the song to Sheldon. This is also a memorable
song in the series and we all love it.
The
Xbox vs Play Station argument has been around forever and we get to see
Sheldon plagued with this decision in season 7 episode 19. Amy takes
Sheldon to the Best Buy store and Sheldon tries to decide which games
console, The Xbox 1 or PS4, he should buy. Sheldon takes way too long to
decide so Amy offers to buy him both but he only has room for one games
console. The store closes down so Amy and Sheldon are kicked out
leaving us to wonder which games console Sheldon bought in the end.
When
Sheldon won an award, he was asked to peform a speech. Sheldon is
afraid of public speaking so Penny gives him alcohol to help him relax.
This backfires for Sheldon as he gets drunk and makes inappropriate
jokes. In the morning Leonard and Penny show Sheldon a YouTube video of
the night before and we see that Sheldon took his trousers off and
talked about mooning the people watching!
For those of you
who love The Big Bang Bang Theory, why not watch Young Sheldon and see
how Sheldon has developed into the man he is today.
Quotes that I will put around the DPS pages:
"BAZINGA!"
"I'm not crazy my mother had me tested"
"one cries because one is sad, I cry because other people make me sad"
"Soft kitty
Warm Kitty
Little ball of fur
Happy kitty
Sleepy kitty
Purr purr purr"
"I have never said that you are not good at what you do, its just that what you do is not worth doing"
Setting up my equipment

Here
you can see I am setting up my photography equipment to take my photos
of my model Noah Lawton. I eventually chose to do the photohoot inside
with a normal camera lense with the Cannon E0S 250D camera. I placed
this on a tripod to get a stable photo.
Creating Assets
I have used Adobe Illustrator to create the graphics and masthead for my Sheldon Cooper magazine. Adobe Illustrator uses a vector format (shape based) instead of a bitmap format (pixels based). This means I can easily scale my graphics without losing quality.
Here is my TV Fanatics masthead that I created in Adobe Illustrator. To create the TV, I downloaded a T.V. royalty free font from DaFont. I then typed which TV I wanted to use. I used the rectangle tool, duplicated these and changed the lengths of them. I decided to use the colours blue, green, red and purple since they are the colours of famous t-shirts that Sheldon Cooper wears. I used the paint bucket tool to change these colours. I then placed these on the layer over the TV. Using the Glitch Inside font that I downloaded from DaFont, I typed TV Fanatics and used the spacing tool to space out the two words. I then used this in my work. Iwill use this on my magazine front cover and contents page.

This is my The Flash vector graphic. I used the images below as a template for how the logo should look. I used the ellipse tool to create the circles and the paint bucket tool and RGB code to colour them in. I drew the lightning bolt and the shadow using the pen tool. I will use this graphic on my DPS.
This is a speech bubble and I created this using the pen tool and a reference. I then duplicated the bubble, used the paint bucket tool and used the colour black to create a comic book style shadow.
I have used the pen tool and I drew around the template. This is a famous t-shirt design that Sheldon Cooper wears on the show.
Here you can see I have used images I took myself using a camera and created a collage background in Adobe Photoshop. I did this by removing the borders using the quick selection tool and deleting it. I then arranged these to get the final product.
